How to Order Delicious Vegan Pizza at MOD Pizza (2024)

MOD Pizza is a fast-casual pizza restaurant chain based in Seattle, Washington. It was founded in 2008 and has more than 460 locations in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

They serve individual artisan-style pizzas and salads that are made on-demand, and ready in just a few minutes. Plus, you can choose over 30 toppings and the price stays the same. What struck my attention was MOD Pizza’s ethos. They claim to be mindful of animal ethics, their environmental impact, while at the same time partnering exclusively with suppliers that care about quality.

Here’s a quick statement the pizza-chain posted about in August 2016:

“MOD is looking out for all ilks of eaters and provides plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans alike including vegan crust, vegan red sauce and vegan cheese from Daiya – not to mention tons of fresh veggies and herbs to choose from.”

Does MOD Pizza Have Any Vegan Pizza?

At this point in time, MOD Pizza has three vegetarian pizzas:

• Maddy (classic all-cheese pizza)
• Lucy Sunshine (mozzarella, parmesan, artichokes, garlic, dollops of red sauce)
• Dillon James (mozzarella, asiago, fresh chopped basil, garlic, sliced tomatoes, red sauce)

You can easily make these pizzas vegan by either removing the cheese or by replacing it with Daiya’s vegan cheese. Daiya is a brand that specializes in all sorts of dairy-free products.

MOD Pizza doesn’t have a premade vegan pizza, but you have all the building blocks to create an awesome one. There’s vegan dough, vegan red sauce, and vegan cheese.

MOD is best known for the create-your-own pizzas and salad options, so it’s probably much more interesting to create one from scratch by choosing the dough, cheese, sauce, and toppings.

Is MOD Pizza’s Dough Vegan?

According to MOD Pizza’s allergen information, they have three different crusts they rely on to prepare their delicious pizzas with:

• Original Crust: A wheat-based crust that is 100% vegan.
• Gluten-Free Crust: A gluten-free option that replaces wheat flour with rice flour.
• Cauliflower Crust: This one isn’t vegan, as it contains dairy-based cheese and egg whites.

MOD also has different options for different appetites. The Original 11-inch is the most commonly ordered, but you also have the Mini and Mega options. The Mini option is a 6-inch pizza, and the Mega is an 11-inch pizza with double the dough for a thick pizza crust.

Assuming that you want to create your own pizza, MOD has over 30 toppings and sauces to choose from, and you can include as many as you want without paying anything additional.

With these many toppings and sauces, the vegan cheese, dough, and red sauce, it’s impossible to NOT have a good time at MOD Pizza. This is the type of commitment that we, vegans, want to see from restaurant chains like this one — I mean, everyone loves pizza.

Can You Order a Vegan Salad at MOD Pizza?

Despite being a pizza joint, MOD pizza is also known for selling salads.

At present, they have three signature salads:

• Deluxe: greens, chicken, salami, green bell peppers, tomatoes, olives, parmesan, and balsamic dressing.
• Caesar: romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, asiago cheese, diced tomatoes, croutons, and caesar dressing.
• Simple: greens, roasted red peppers, asiago, and balsamic dressing.

Only the Simple salad is vegan-friendly, though you can ask MOD to convert them into vegan salads by removing the animal components and replacing the dairy cheese with non-dairy cheese.

And once again, you don’t have to stick to the signature options. You can also create your own salad and choose how many toppings and sauces you want. The toppings used for the salads are precisely the same ones used for the pizzas, so you’ll have to reference the toppings listed above.
